Norm loves a good story. ​Before becoming a full-time storyteller, he was an award-winning teacher who told stories daily in his classroom and taught storytelling skills to students after school.
​
He’s told stories professionally all over the country. He’s been a featured teller at the Powellswood (2012), Art of the Story (2017), and Stone Soup (2018), The Ark (2020), and Florida (2021) Storytelling Festivals. Norm proudly narrated for the Seattle Symphony (2012), told at Seattle Art Museum (2014), and at the National Storytelling Networks’ Summit (2017 & 2018). He has been a Showcase Storyteller at Northwest Folklife in Seattle twelve times (2009 - 2022). He is a member of the online storytelling group The TBD Storytellers which have entertained people remotely since 2020 and continue today.

He’s performed his Lighter "Side of Lincoln" program dozens of times since 2016. He extensive repertoire includes traditional tales, personal narratives, historical tales, and stories in song.

His music, zeal, and humor add to any occasion.
​
One of his greatest joys has been performing and teaching with his wife, Anne Rutherford. When Norm tells, people listen, and often join in.
